FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A shooting in downtown Fredericksburg left two people injured Wednesday night, and police are still working to identify a suspect.
The Fredericksburg Police Department says the incident happened around 7:54 p.m. on November 13 in the 800 block of William Street, a busy corridor with homes and local businesses just west of downtown.
Officers and medics responded quickly after a 911 call reporting gunfire. One victim was found at the scene and treated immediately. A second person connected to the shooting was identified shortly after during the investigation. Both were taken to the hospital and are now in stable condition, according to police.
Detectives believe the shooting was not random. Early findings suggest the people involved knew each other, and this was an isolated event.
Police are looking for one person described as a Black male, wearing gray joggers and no shirt. No further description is available yet, and detectives are still on the scene.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or home/business security footage from the area to come forward. Tips can be reported directly to the Fredericksburg Police Department at 540-373-3122.
As of Thursday morning, the investigation is ongoing.
