Deputy Pinkard responded to a fraud complaint involving a USAA Bank scam.
The victim reported receiving multiple calls from a suspect posing as a bank representative who claimed the account had been compromised. The suspect instructed the victim to transfer funds through Zelle and Cash App. The victim complied after receiving several messages reinforcing the claim.
Afterward, the victim contacted USAA’s fraud department and realized the previous communications were fraudulent. The bank froze the affected accounts and initiated an investigation. The deputy advised the victim to block the suspect’s numbers and change any compromised passwords.
