A Stafford resident avoided further financial loss after recognizing a scam involving someone posing as a representative from USAA.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the caller falsely claimed there had been fraudulent activity on the victim’s account and instructed the victim to provide account information and email a photograph of a completed deposit slip.
After providing the requested information, the victim realized the call was fraudulent and immediately contacted the bank, which froze the account.
Deputies said no suspects have been identified, and the investigation is continuing.
